Lynnwood Library to launch new eBook service | Lynnwood Today

Thursday, January 17, 2013

LibraryOn Jan. 24,?Sno-Isle Libraries, which includes the?Lynnwood Library, will be the first library district in the Pacific Northwest to launch a new eBook service from 3M Cloud Library Systems. The new eBook service will make it easier for Snohomish and Island County ebook customers to find and check-out over 3,000 additional eBook titles for use on non-Kindle devices, computers and laptops.

Area residents are cordially invited to attend the unveiling event and short speakers program. This event will also offer an opportunity to view customer demos and speak with representatives from 3M Cloud and Polaris. Library customers are being encouraged to bring their e-gadgets for coaching on how to use this new service.

Officials on-hand for 3 p.m. event at?Lynnwood Library:

Kendra Trachta, Public Services Director of Sno-Isle Libraries

Jeanne Crisp, Technical Services Director of Sno-Isle Libraries

Matt Tempelis, 3M Cloud Library Services Business Manager

Bill Shickling, President/CEO of Polaris (the vendor supplying the Libraries? circulation system)

Why it Matters

eBook reading is skyrocketing and so is the demand for titles. According to a study published last week by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, the share of Americans who read eBooks increased dramatically over the past year to 23 percent from the previous year?s 16 percent. The tablets and e-reader devices are now owned by one-third of the U.S. population, aged 16 and older. This rapid technology adoption rate is driving an insatiable appetite for eBook titles which has been difficult for public libraries to satisfy, until now.

If you wish to attend, you may RSVP by calling Debie Murchie at 360-651-7029 or replying at dmurchie@sno-isle.org.
