PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) ? A Pakistani official says gunmen have staged more attacks on U.N.-backed polio vaccination teams, wounding one worker in the country's northwest.
Wednesday's attacks come a day after five female polio workers were killed in southern and northwestern Pakistan. Taliban spokesman Ahsanullah Ahsan has claimed responsibility for the attacks on Tuesday.
Pakistan is one of only three countries where polio is endemic.
Janbaz Afridi, a senior health official, says the latest attacks took place in Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera cities. One polio worker was wounded in the head and is in critical condition.
Militants accuse health workers of acting as spies for the U.S. and claim the vaccine makes children sterile.
The Taliban in the lawless northwestern tribal region also blame the U.S. drone strikes for their opposition to the vaccinations.
